PCSO 6861 Trantom
Road Safety/Speeding General ASB Drug dealing/Drug use
Road Safety September 2025 Over the last quarter we have maintained our approach to try and make the local roads safer. We have continued to conduct stop checks and issue tickets for parking on zig zags on Evington Road in particular. This past month, PC Woolley issued two within minutes of each other and had to arrest someone for obstructing a police constable. This shows we are serious about enforcing the law. The trial of the bus CCTV has been completed and there is a second camera which is functioning. We remind road users to continue to be considerate of others. Working with Sgt Hall’s teams, OP SYPHON is moving into its next phase of activity. We have been working on Evington Road and there have been concerns about delivery drivers causing obstructions. After months of preparation, we are pleased that the majority of the team are now trained with the Trucam 2. This is a sophisticated hand-held speed detection device that does not require a vehicle to be stopped to issue a fixed penalty notice. We have listened in the local crime summit about reports of ASB driving and speeding on Evington Lane in particular, and on Staveley Road. We are going to use it for speed monitoring in the run up to Christmas which will then turn into enforcement once we get a good picture of the level of speed in key areas. Please get in touch if you can direct us to other problem streets. PC Woolley has held a street meeting on the ‘Way Roads’ which did not have much uptake but we have communicated our local efforts via their local community WhatsApp group. We appreciate residents’ interest in their local area. ASB September 2025 As the update on drugs shows, we continue to take a wider approach to problem-solving. Over the last three months, we have focused on street drinking and have made particular progress by issuing multiple Community Protection Notice Warnings (CPNWs) with exclusion zones. Six persons are prohibited from this area until mid-2026. The issue on Onslow Park has improved and we know fly-tipping is being addressed by the CRASBU team. We have also seen the benefit of a permanent Pod Cam on Abingdon Road to disrupt drug dealer and street violence. Although we will be covering issues of access, ASB, fly tipping, ownership, and cleanliness there, a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and introducing a regular beat surgery at the Somali Development Services building has helped. ASB will be discussed as part of our patch walk with Councillors and partners this coming Wednesday 15th October. PCSO Trantom will be representing the beat team. We will be visiting Evington Road and issues of cleanliness, fly tipping, bin misuse, parking, and bus stop CCTV are going to be covered and also St Albans Rd and St James Rd. Our main focus will be on St James Road in terms of ASB (as the update on Drugs shows). We are consider whether the street will benefit from a Pod Cam and will discuss with the local Councillors. Please do report any ASB issues through to us via 101 or by emailing communitysafety@leicester.gov.uk Drugs September 2025 In the last three months we have made progress on Abingdon Road but remain vigilant. The installation of the pod cam has been very helpful. PC Robinson has been busy out and about conducting stop checks. In response to reports of drug misuse (cannabis) two youths were stop searched behind Maple Court and cannabis was seized. We are now working with the youth offending service to deal with it suitably. We are continuing to work with PA Housing about the issue of access. We are continuing our disruption with active patrolling around the South Highfields area and plans are well underway for enforcement. We would appreciate any information you would like to pass on (anonymously if you wish) Crimestoppers www.crimestoppers-uk.org 0800 555111 or their youth service Fearless. We know from our consultations and residents’ meeting on 25/09/25, that PCSO Trantom has been speaking with a host of partners about making St James Road a more pleasant place for residents. The meeting was really positive and included representatives from the local hostels, local housing providers, our Councillors, our MP, Community Safety team, and the Police. We are looking to support one of the local hostels by linking in with Leicester’s Homelessness Charter and the Community Safety team. The intention is to support with assisted services and looking at referral systems.
